These Terms and Conditions govern your use of the Democracy Classroom website and its accounts, content and tools.
By creating an account or using a feature that requires an account, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not create an account or use that feature
1. About Democracy Classroom
Democracy Classroom is operated by The Politics Project CIC (“TPP”, “we”, “us” or “our”).
The website provides educational and informational resources, including teaching materials, events, organisation information, downloadable content and the Framework self-assessment tool.
The website is intended principally for teachers, youth practitioners and people interested in democratic participation.
We do not knowingly solicit data from or market to children under 18 years of age. By using our services, you represent that you are at least 18 or that you are the parent or guardian of such a minor and consent to such minor dependent’s use of the services. If we learn that personal information from users less than 18 years of age has been collected, we will deactivate the account and take reasonable measures to promptly delete such data from our records. If you become aware of any data we may have collected from children under age 18, please contact us.
2. Accounts
Some content and tools are available only to signed-in users.
When creating an account:
- You must provide accurate information.
- You must keep your login details confidential.
- You must complete email verification.
- You must not create an account for someone else without permission.
- You must not share your account or allow another person to use it.
- You must tell us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
- You may update your profile answers at any time.
We may suspend or close an account where we reasonably believe that these Terms have been breached, the account has been misused or continued access would create a security or legal risk.
You may request deletion of your account. The treatment of historical questionnaire and self-assessment records following deletion will be as described in the Privacy Policy.
3. Website content
We aim to keep the website accurate and useful, but content may contain errors, omissions or information that becomes out of date.
Website content is provided for general educational and informational purposes. It is not legal, financial, medical, professional or other tailored advice.
You are responsible for deciding whether content is suitable for your circumstances, learners, organisation or intended use.
We may update, remove or change content, features and availability without notice where reasonably necessary.
4. Downloads and permitted use
Downloads are made available to signed-in users as a website visibility rule. The underlying files may be hosted on a public content-delivery network, so signing in does not guarantee that a file link is technically access-controlled.
Subject to any separate licence or attribution notice, you may:
- View and download resources for lawful educational, personal or organisational use.
- Use resources in teaching, training, workshops and related activities.
- Adapt resources where the relevant content licence permits adaptation.
- Credit TPP and the original rights holder where required.
You must not:
- Remove copyright, attribution or other rights notices.
- Misrepresent TPP’s materials as your own.
- Resell or commercially exploit materials unless expressly permitted.
- Use the website or downloads unlawfully.
- Attempt to bypass access controls, interfere with the website or access another user’s account.
- Upload malicious code or material that infringes another person’s rights.
- Use automated scraping or extraction in a way that burdens or harms the website.
Some materials may be owned by third parties. Any third-party licence, attribution or usage restriction shown with the material will apply.
5. Framework self-assessment
The Framework self-assessment tool is a general educational and evaluation tool. Results are shown when you complete the assessment. Results are not provided as personalised professional advice. The website does not currently provide an archive of previous results. Repeat attempts are stored as separate submissions.
Do not enter information about another person unless you have a lawful basis and permission to do so.
6. Personalisation
The “For You” page and content recommendations are generated automatically from answers you provide about yourself. They are intended only to help you find relevant content. Further information about this processing is in the Privacy Policy.
7. Re-contact and evaluation
The Democracy Classroom website and the Democratic Education Framework are supported by the Electoral Commission. When you use the Democratic Education Framework self-assessment tool, your data is shared with the Electoral Commission for monitoring and evaluation purposes. The Electoral Commission may re-contact you about surveys, feedback, evaluation or possible case studies connected with Democracy Classroom or the Democratic Education Framework. This is confirmed at the point of signup. For more information on data sharing, please see our privacy policy.
If you are contacted about taking part in a case study, TPP or the Electoral Commission will explain the proposed use and obtain any further permission needed before publishing identifying information. No personal data will be shared with third parties for this purpose unless it has been anonymised, except as described in the Privacy Policy or required by law.
8. Intellectual property
Unless stated otherwise, TPP owns or licences the website and its content, including text, branding, design and databases. These Terms do not transfer ownership of any intellectual property to you. They grant only the permissions expressly stated in these Terms or in a separate licence.

9. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we process personal data. By using the website, you acknowledge that you have been given access to that Policy.
The website uses necessary authentication and functional browser storage. Analytics cookies will only be used where the required consent has been given. Details are set out in the Privacy Policy.
10. Availability and third-party services
We do not guarantee that the website or any particular feature will always be available, uninterrupted, secure or error-free.
The website depends on third-party services, including hosting, database, email, search, front-end and analytics providers. We may change or replace those services where reasonably necessary.
Links to third-party websites are provided for convenience. TPP does not control or endorse third-party websites and is not responsible for their content, security, availability or privacy practices.
11. Liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
Subject to that protection, to the fullest extent permitted by law:
- The website and its content are provided on an “as available” basis.
- TPP does not guarantee that content will be complete, accurate, current or suitable for a particular purpose.
- TPP is not responsible for loss caused by your reliance on general website content, interruption of the website, third-party services or unauthorised access that was not caused by TPP’s breach of these Terms.
- TPP is not responsible for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of opportunity or loss of goodwill.
Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
12. Changes and termination
We may update these Terms when the website, law or our services change. We will publish the updated version on the website and update the “Last updated” date.
If you continue to use the website after an update takes effect, you will be treated as accepting the updated Terms. If you do not accept them, you should stop using the website and may request account deletion.
13. Governing law
These Terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the law of England and Wales.
The courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction, except that consumers living elsewhere in the United Kingdom may also have the right to bring proceedings in their home jurisdiction.
