Introducing Democracy Classroom

Harriet Andrews, Director of The Politics Project

We are excited to announce the relaunch of Democracy Classroom! This partnership works to support young people to engage in elections and cast a meaningful vote by bringing our collective expertise, networks and resources together on one platform.

Democracy Classroom is designed to support teachers, youth practitioners, elections officers and anyone else working with young people on the best way to navigate the often complicated world of elections.

I am incredibly grateful to our fantastic network of organisations who partner with us on Democracy Classroom for being generous with their content and for embracing the central idea of this initiative - that through collaboration we can be greater than the sum of our parts. Supporting engagement in elections is a huge task. By bringing together our collective knowledge, different perspectives and expertise we are able to understand and engage more meaningfully with a broader range of young people and jointly amplify their voices.

We are looking forward to supporting you through a bumper year of elections in 2024, including  the local and mayoral elections taking place on the 2nd May and the general election that will (likely) happen in 2024. We will be here to support you throughout, so if you are having trouble tracking down resources or are looking for local events, then please feel free to book a one-to-one call with a member of The Politics Project team or drop us an email at info@thepoliticsproject.org.uk. If we can’t answer your questions or know another organisation that might do an (even) better job, we will connect you with them.

Throughout this busy year, our team will be adding new opportunities and content as these become available, seeking out anything that we think will be useful. We will be rounding up all of the new content in a monthly newsletter, which as well as sharing the latest opportunities will include articles from specialist organisations and practitioners. You can subscribe to that email here. Also keep an eye out for some new features coming soon (such as a Hustings map) to support you to navigate the growing number of opportunities.

Democracy Classroom is an ever expanding network of organisations and practitioners and we would love to hear from anyone interested in our work. If you are a non-partisan organisation that wants to get involved in the partnership then please get in touch, we are always excited to bring in new voices. We have a range of meet ups, conferences and events that you can get involved in, as well as providing opportunities to showcase your work. If you are an individual wanting to donate your skills and time, then please also get in touch. Just contact us on info@thepoliticsproject.org.uk to discuss.

Finally I want to say a massive thank you to Sian, Mia, Fatema, Luke and Ian at The Politics Project who support Democracy Classroom and to Lizzie from Jamabuck and Maciej our graphic designer for rebuilding and redesigning the site with us. Thanks also to all the partners and teachers for sharing their ideas and perspectives with us and helping us to shape the resources and programmes that will be taking place throughout the next year. A fantastic team effort.
