First News

First News is the UK’s original news brand for children. Since 2006, our weekly newspaper, digital app and teaching resources have helped millions of young people stay informed about what's happening in the world around them, both at home and in school. Our mission is simple: to give children the facts, support their understanding, and spark curiosity about global events.

In an era of misinformation, polarisation and unregulated online content, First News has never been more vital. We provide a trusted, calm and balanced space where children can make sense of complex issues and feel empowered to form their own views. We believe every child deserves access to reliable, age-appropriate journalism that builds understanding rather than anxiety.

As media and information literacy becomes part of the national curriculum, children will soon learn, formally and consistently, to spot fake news, question the information they encounter, and think critically from primary school onwards.

For nearly 20 years, First News has championed these skills, helping young people read between the headlines and navigate information safely and confidently. We are proud to support this new direction for education and excited to help equip every child to thrive in an AI-driven, hyper-connected world.
